AUTHOR Championships! Meek Mill had a really big 2018. This year was definitely a fight for freedom, to be heard, and to speak up for those whom can’t speak for themselves. You can see his growth and the impact of the ups , downs, and success. To see the city come out and rally for Meek , to see the support and love that we all have for Philly’s own is so incredible. Meek is using his platform to share multiple messages as a social game changer and motivator .Since 2015 , I’ve been recapping the year .So here’s eight reasons why 2018 was big for him. He’s speaking the real and he can’t be silenced. I interviewed Meek Mill years ago and he always expressed wanting to help the youth and he’s doing that more ever now and taken on prison reform and injustice. 1.MEEK MILL RELEASED “CHAMPIONSHIPS” ALBUM Meek Mill released his fourth studio album “Championships” on November 30,2018. This album is definitely full of bar for bar heavy lyrics, untouchable metaphors, stories , and radio singles. The album streamed over 235 million times and earned Meek a #1 spot on Billboard 200. It features Phil Collins, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Cardi B, Drake, Anuel AA, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, Jeremih, PnB Rock, Fabolous, Future, Young Thug, Ella Mai, and Melli. Meek Mill’s beat choices has always been incredible and his production was amazing on this album. In a recent interview with Trevor Noah , Meek Mill expressed that he was depressed in jail and he didn’t get a lot of writing done. After his release he got back in the studio, performed at Made In America, and got back to work releasing “Legends of Summer EP” which preceded the album. Meek created a very special album. It’s classic content. He connects the listener to the hard cold reality of the streets ,life , business ,his battle with the justice system, the entertainment industry, business , and more . There’s definitely a song on the album that will definitely fit your mood. Whether it’s the turn up on “Tic Tac To” or “With The Shits” , the grown and sexy “24/7” or the bone chilling raw delivery on “Trauma” or “Oodles O Noodles Babies” he hand delivered an incredible album for this generation. He definitely showed his growth, intelligence, and expressed pain and pleasure on “Championships”. So far he’s released visuals for the “Intro”, “Dangerous”, and “Trauma” and has plans for more visuals. MEEK MILL ANNOUNCED “THE MOTIVATION TOUR”The Motivation Tour” sponsored by Tidal is Meek’s official tour for the “Championships” album. The tour kicks off February 19,2019 in Miami, Florida and ends March 24,2019 in Atlanta. There are 16 total stops across the United States. He hasn’t announced any guest appearances or more tour dates. However tickets can be purchase now if you want to get litty with Meek in your city . 3.MEEK MILL X PRISON REFORM “Oh say can you see I don’t feel like Locked down in my cell from ankle to feet. Judge banging that gavel turned me to slave from a King. Another day in that bing I gotta hang from a string.” These hard hitting lyrics from “What’s Free” ft Rick Ross and Jay Z is real life to Meek Mill. Meek has dealt with the unjust system for years at the hands of sketchy law enforcement, unfair rules, and regulations of courts aging from 18 until recent . In the summer of 2017 wheelies on his dirt bike. The judge wanted Meek to serve two to four years. A sentence of that length carried weight of high level crimes. Meek never had a violent offense. He just popped a wheelie. The charge was so appalling and sickening that the city of Philadelphia , celebrities , the owner of the 76ers Rick Rubin, Jay Z , as well as other high profile figures joined together to show Meek support through this time and help bring him home. Meek expressed being in survival mode and how those five months affected him drastically being locked up with major criminals whom committed serious crimes. After Meek’s release he has been interviewed on numerous rally’s , talk shows, covered XXL Magazine and opportunities to speak out Prison Reform, PTSD, stopping violence, and coming together to help those in the prison system and educate others so they don’t ever go there. Meek expressed that being away from his son and his family was painful. Meek Mill has been imprisoned four times and now he’s using his platform to speak on all the issues because the system is enslaving by the thousands daily and things need to change. One of his first post after leaving prison read [ “ I’d like to thank God, my family, and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time. While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive.”] 4. MEEK MILL AND PUMA PARTNERSHIP #REFORM Meek Mill is a business man. He has emerged from a rapper to a Owner of DreamChasers Records, and more .In a interview with Power99 he also emphasized he wants to create films, and more opportunities for youth in the city. In 2012 Meek teamed up with PUMA and is still a lead partner for the brand . Puma launched its a #REFORM campaign, which was created to shed light on social issues . So the two have collaborated on multiple projections including remodeling a basketball court in Fairmount Park in Philly. There’s also a new sneaker collaboration dropping in 2019 but the official date hasn’t been announced but during his GQ interview he said “It’s looking good so far and they’re in the first stage”. 5.MEEK MILL BRINGS CHRISTMAS TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD Meek surprised the youth this Christmas with 3,000 toys, sneakers, and more. He can provide a great Christmas for his son and wanted other kids to have a good one too. So he gave out 3,000 toys , shoes, and more. The kids were so suprised and so many faces were filled with smiles . 6.THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES CHOSE “DREAM AND NIGHTMARES” FOR SUPER BOWL LllMeek’s “Dream And Nightmares” song released in 2012 from his debut album. The Philadelphia Eagles selected the song as their warm up and entrance song for the Super Bowl. The Eagles played the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. The score ended 33-41 at the U.S Bank Stadium in Minneapolis,MS. Over 62,000 people attended the game . The Eagles chose the song because it embodied being triumphant over battles until you win and seeing the vision clearly. The song blasted through TV screens across the country.The championship energy from the song , it charted in the Top 100 songs and The Top Rap/HipHop 100. The track definitely set the tone for a win. [Seen my dreams unfold, nightmares come true It was time to marry the game and I said, "Yeah, I do" If you want it you gotta see it with a clear-eyed view] This song is a Philly Anthem no matter where you are this song will always be special. 7. MEEK LANDED A MAJOR MOVIE ROLEThe 2013 documentary “12 O’Clock Boys” directed by Lotfy Nathan is transforming into a feature film. The doc is based on the life of a boy Mouse who desperately wants to be apart of the Midnight Clique, a group of dirt bike riders in Baltimore. The movie is directed by Manuel Soto and the screenplay via Barry Jenkins and Sherman Payne. Overbrook and Sony Entertainment are hubs for production of the film. Producers include Jada Pinkett SmithF Caleeb Pinkett, Marc Bienstock and Clarence Hammond. Meek Mill is cast as the leader of the Midnight Clique. Jahi Di’Allo Winston, Teyonah Parris, and Will Calltlett will also star in the project. New information hasn’t released but Meek told Complex “This is my first big debut in the movie world and we actually start shooting next week,” Meek revealed. “I wouldn’t call acting a goal, it’s just something to help me expand my brand. It’s another challenge to attack. As opportunities come, if I like it, I take it.” So you can look forward to seeing Meek’s main character acting debut in the film. 8. BET NAMED MEEK MILL “MAN OF THE YEAR”BET named Meek Mill “Man Of The Year” because he turned tragedy to triumph. There were so many hurdles Meek faced this year but he didn’t stop. His greatness continues. He has the vision to provide opportunities to help people better themselves. He faced many adversities but he using the very stones thrown at him to accomplish change.
