Political activist, scholar, and author Angela Davis once said "Progressive art can assist people to learn not only about the objective forces at work in the society in which they live, but also about the intensely social character of their interior lives. Ultimately, it can propel people toward social emancipation". Beyonce's new song and video "Formation" is not just art. The song sends a very strong message that high lights women's rights, injustice against minorities, and financial freedom. Of course Queen B always surprises us. Remember when she released her "Beyonce" album in 2013? She made the world stop and Yonce has done it again. Her song/video "Formation" released on TIDAL a day before her Pepsi Superbowl Halftime performance. Her progressive art has gained a lot of buzz and a lot of conversation. Beyonce's video featured her beautiful daughter Blu Ivy , the voice of Messy Mya ( whom was shot and killed by police, at the age of 22) and rapper Big Freedia. In the New Orleans based video . Some of her scenes depict the devastation of Hurricane Katrina , Mardi Gras, a young black child in a hoodie dancing, a sign that says stop shooting us, a newspaper displaying Martin Luther King which reads "More Than A Dreamer" , and her on top of a police car. She and her dancers payed homage to the Black Panthers as they dressed in all black leather and berets with their fist in the air. Beyonce's performance was super and she used her artistic abilities and platform to propel people toward social emancipation as Angela Davis said. For those of you that don't know what social emancipation it's the fact or process of being set free from legal, social, or political restrictions; liberation. Beyonce speaks on working hard, grinding until she owns it. So let's get in formation ( which means together) and get information (because knowledge is power) . After Beyonce's performance at the Superbowl she announced her "The Formation World Tour". l am so excited and I can't wait to see her show in Philadelphia June 5,2016. Get your tickets (here) and watch the "Formation" video below.

Woo! Finally Rihanna's eighth studio album "ANTI" is here . The Navy went crazy the other day when Rihanna posted a selfie wearing Dolce & Gabbana x Frends golden crowned headphones with the caption "Listening to ANTI". This definitely set social media on fire . Then yesterday she released her single "Work" featuring Drake . Everyone was jamming out to the upbeat-spunky track and what a surprise she released the full "ANTI" album last night on TIDAL. Since it's release the album has been streamed over 13 million times. ( Round of applause and a twerk for Rih-Rih) . "ANTI" is very edgy, groovy, original, daring, animated, and hypnotic. Her features SZA and Drake are great choices and the beats are blazing. The vibes on this 13 track project range from somber, to Yeah I Said It , to straight fierce and savage unapologetic boldness. Although Rihanna is straight forward ANTI has a mysterious addictive flavor. ANTI takes us a little higher into Rih's #uRIHverse. Her voice is sultry, spicy, strong, and classically sexy. I'm definitely loving that she went against all the rules and did things her own way darlin. #ANTI has it's own direction and the NAVY definitely got the message and the navy definitely approves.

World Stop and watch the Queens do their thang in their "Feeling Myself" video. I know I'm not the only one (Sam Smith voice) that has been playing this video non stop since it release on TIDAL today. I think we all are feeling ourselves right now doing the bounce dance to this video. Nicki and Beyonce are movements by themselves but together they burn it up. Not only is the video sexy but its so fun. I could so go for a burger and fries at the moment , nevermind I could always go for a burger and fries. This video is super dope and I love it. Maybe we'll get an collaborative album one day (crosses fingers and wishes on a star). They def should be feeling themselves , they deserve to after all the hard work they put in. |
