I left the frigid temperature outside and entered into the soulful atmosphere of Warmdaddy's. The sound of Stevie Wonder's music brought a smile to my face and brought back so many childhood memories. Patty Jackson was hosting her show live from the restaurant. As I sat at the table with my mother, I noticed everyone was enjoying their food , good music, and friends and family. I ordered Warmdaddy's famous sweet potato cheesecake. It was beyond delicious so much so I requested to meet the chef.I was so surprised when Chef Ed exited the kitchen to meet me. I embraced Chef Ed and thanked him for making such an exquisite dessert. He was just as sweet as my cheesecake. The Warmdaddy's staff and manager Bobby Torres were so pleasant and interacted well with the guests who came to see Patty Jackson and the cast of Motown.
The Motown Musical is currently on tour. The show is playing live in Philly at the Academy of Music January 6-January 18. The legendary Berry Gordy is the founder of Motown. Motown launched the careers of Michael Jackson,Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and many more.Since the cast is in Philly they made a special stop at Warmdaddy's. They spent the day performing, chatting live on air with Patty Jackson, and savoring the flavorful and divine meals. Jesse Nager stars in the Motown musical as the incredible Smokey Robinson and Jarran Muse stars as the unforgettable Marvin Gaye. Their smiles were so warming and their aura was so amiable and engaging. As I sat at their table for The Mogul Minute interview I could see they to enjoyed their food. It was such a pleasure to interview two young men who are pursuing their passion and continuing to tell the story of the Motown family live on stage throughout the United States. 1) The Mogul Girl : So Jarran when did you get into acting? Jarran: I got into acting as a kid. I started acting in school plays throughout elementary, middle, high school, and college. It kind of happened naturally. 2) The Mogul Girl: What triggered you to pursue this career? Jarran: In kindergarten my class trip was to see Cinderella at the State Theater in New Brunswick. I never saw a live show so I didn't know what that was. So I started watching Barney ,Sesame Street and stuff like that. Then I realized I wanted to do what I saw the kids incorporated in Barney and the teens in the kiddy shows doing . I just wanted to be one of those people. 3) The Mogul Girl: So Jesse you are playing Smokey Robinson, which one of his songs is your favorite? Jesse: My favorite Smokey Robinson song isn't in the show and its "The Tracks of My Tears". 4) The Mogul Girl: Why is it your favorite? Jesse: I love the harmonies, the lyrics, it just fits together well. Smokey is such a genius at writing melodies that match the music and that's the reason I like it. 5)The Mogul Girl: During the play, what has been your favorite experience? Before we opened the show in New York we had friends and family night. So many Motown artist, creators, office workers , and people who have been apart of Motown came out to the show. It was fun to hang out and talk with them. 6) The Mogul Girl: You guys have traveled a lot what has been your favorite place? Jarran: Its hard to say for me. Every place has its own unique flavor something about it that makes it really special. I'm a big foodie. I love to eat clearly I have several entrees in front of me. I really enjoyed Kanses City, because the Barbeque and the people. Its just something about the Midwest. Depending on where you are its just really nice genuinely friendly people and really good food. 7)The Mogul Girl: Are you enjoying the traveling? Jesse: We've only been to a few cities. I'm excited about Philly also Boston, Florida, Denver, L.A., and Fort Lauderdale. Now we're starting to do the coast so it is going to be a lot of fun. 8) The Mogul Girl: Motown is iconic and has opened doors for numerous opportunities. What have you learned from not only your research but growing up listening to the music and watching it progress? Jesse: One of the things I think is incredibly important for our generation is the reminder that you have to work really hard to become an icon. In the age of American Idol and YouTube sensations, some people are here today and gone tomorrow. All you can do is become famous really quickly. If you want to be Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, or Michael Jackson, you have to work so hard all the time. Its not easy but to get to where you want to be , you have to put the time in. Learning about the artist is just a constant reminder that they grew up with nothing in Detroit and became international superstars because of their hard work. 9) The Mogul Girl :Why should everyone come see Motown the Musical? Jarran: Its a timeless classic! You are going to hear really good music that you're familiar with. We all no matter how old you are, you grew up in Motown. Your parents listened to it as you were kids, their parents listened to it, and you hear it in elevators, you hear it in the doctors waiting room. When you come to the show you already know the music, so it'll take you back . Maybe you were there when the music first came out or maybe you were a little kid and remember an event that happened. Motown the Musical is an American story about the good old American Dream. People will be pleasantly surprised with the story behind the scenes, the story that they are not familiar with. I enjoyed interviewing Jarran and Jesse so much. I loved their personalities. It was a pleasure to speak with them. The music of Motown artist continued to float throughout Warmdaddy's . Motown love was definitely in the air. Thank you so much to Patty Jackson for hosting her show live and bringing the cast of Motown. It was great to see her and congratulate her on 33 years of radio. Just to watch her host live was an amazing experience. I listen to her on the radio all the time, so to watch her do what she loves in person was inspiring to me. She even posed for a selfie .She's a phenomenal woman. Special thanks to Linda.J.Stewart for the opportunity to interview two amazing men Jarran and Jesse. Motown will live on forever .
